Recreation Therapy Coordinator

Job Summary:
The Recreation Therapy Coordinator is a resident-focused position that develops and implements individual and group programs designed to motivate, activate, and promote the mental, physical, social, and intellectual, and spiritual well-being of the resident. This position will work in accordance with all policies and procedures of the organization, and will work in a safe and healthy manner and follow the regulations outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting with resident admission assessment to determine interests, abilities, and function and implement appropriate programming.
- Providing engaging activities for a diverse population of residents in the Long-Term Care setting.
- Working with other team members to plan and conduct facility-wide events that include evenings and weekends as required.
- Acting as a member of LifeCare committees as required.
- Utilizing Activity Pro charting system to record resident's activity attendance.
- Working with team for assigned resident home areas and assisting with ideas for the facility-wide calendar.
- Participating in preparation of the facility for Ministry reviews and Accreditation.
- Assisting with coordination of students, community agencies, schools, entertainment, and volunteer positions.
- Assuming responsibility for ongoing professional development.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience:
- Graduation from a degree or diploma course in Recreation/Leisure Leadership from a recognized community college or university.
- Minimum 2 years' experience working in Long Term Care.
- Computer experience with Point Click Care, and Activity Pro an asset.
- Musical skills are an asset.
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
- Performing all work in accordance with the policies & procedures of the organization and Ontario Health & Safety Act as related to Long Term Care.
- Attending all mandatory in-services according to the policies & procedures of the facility.
