The Logistics Operations Supervisor is responsible for directing the workforce involved in the processing, loading, and distribution of bulk materials to meet production targets, reduce expenses, and enhance personnel efficiency.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety Oversight: Develop and enforce our safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment. Offer proactive solutions and timely corrective measures for identified hazards, while promoting effective housekeeping practices.

Team Empowerment: Foster a cooperative work atmosphere by utilizing individual and team strengths to achieve business goals and address challenges.

Cultural Leadership: Engage actively with team members across various departments and shifts to nurture a positive workplace culture.

Strategic Contributions: Participate in formulating strategic initiatives and communicate the overarching corporate vision for the facility.

Creative Problem Solving: Investigate and apply innovative strategies for problem resolution and demonstrate effective change leadership.

Maintenance Strategy: Leverage technical knowledge and equipment documentation to enhance preventive and routine maintenance strategies.

Operational Coordination: Manage the scheduling of operations and loading tasks, including oversight of supervisory personnel and workforce.

Maintenance Compliance: Ensure compliance with maintenance protocols to minimize recurring failures.

Labor Relations Management: Supervise in a manner that promotes positive labor relations and a collaborative work environment.

Policy Application: Interpret and implement contract and management policies for the supervisory team.

Performance Management: Uphold accountability for work performance standards within the department.

Cost Efficiency: Identify and execute initiatives aimed at cost reduction.

Inventory Oversight: Supervise stockpile operations to guarantee effective inventory management, space utilization, and efficient loading activities.

Material Handling Supervision: Oversee the storage, loading, and transfer operations of bulk materials.

Environmental Stewardship: Manage the environmental aspects of the site related to material transfer and storage.

Infrastructure Oversight: Ensure proper maintenance of lines and infrastructure.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical discipline (preferred) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity; 5+ years in bulk material handling, storage, and/or transfer.

Skills:

  • Project Management: Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Team Development: Proven track record in developing, coaching, and mentoring team members.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to build consensus and maintain a people-oriented approach.
  • Policy Enforcement: Proficient in understanding, training on, and enforcing company policies and safety regulations.
  • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills with a strong ability to prioritize and maintain attention to detail.
  • Communication & Leadership: Outstanding communication and leadership abilities.
  • Union Environment Experience: Experience in a unionized setting is highly preferred.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Office Environment: Primarily operates in a professional office setting utilizing standard office equipment including computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
  • Field Work: Required to wear safety equipment (steel-toe boots, hard hat, safety glasses) and frequently engage in standing, walking, using hands, reaching, talking, or hearing.
  • Physical Conditions: Work involves varying humidity conditions, generally dry areas, and the ability to walk long distances over varied terrain.
  • Physical Abilities: Must be able to work from heights with a full-body harness, ascend/descend ladders up to 30 feet, and lift up to 50 pounds frequently.

  • Supervisor: Reports to the General Manager.
  • Direct Reports: 3-4 Supervisors and a Project Engineer.
