Software Developer Job Description

Fortinet is seeking a skilled Software Developer to join our team in Ottawa. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, with experience in cross-platform desktop application development environments and frameworks such as Electron.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and test software applications for desktop and web platforms
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements
  • Develop and maintain high-quality code, following industry best practices and Fortinet's coding standards
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to the improvement of the codebase
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends in software development
Requirements:
  • 3+ years of software development experience
  • Familiarity with cross-platform desktop application development environments and frameworks such as Electron
  • Experience with full stack web development skills and libraries, including JavaScript, React/Redux, CSS, HTML5, PWA, Node.js, MySQL, or MongoDB
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with C/C++ for the middle layer of development
  • Solid background in networking technologies and protocols
  • Knowledge of telephony protocols such as VoIP/SIP, instant message protocols such as XMPP, Socket.io, and web technologies including Websocket, WebRTC, WebAudio, HTTP/2
  • Experience with MERN or LAMP stack
  • Knowledge of audio CODEC and video CODEC such as opus, H.264, H.323
  • Cloud computing development experience, such as AWS, Azure, etc.
