Job Summary

The City of Ottawa's Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services department is seeking a skilled Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to assist with the delivery of a Therapeutic Recreation/Life Skills day program. This role involves working with individuals with disabilities and developing adapted recreation programming to promote physical and emotional well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of Therapeutic Recreation programs for adults with disabilities
  • Develop and implement adapted recreation programming to meet the needs of individuals with diverse abilities
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure a customer-centric and efficient service delivery model
  • Provide support and guidance to program participants to promote independence and self-advocacy
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of program policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Completion of a 4-year Therapeutic Recreation degree or a 3-year general degree with a Therapeutic Recreation Diploma
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Therapeutic Recreation Adult Day Program/ABI/Special Needs/Rehab/Community/Inclusive Recreation
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED certificates
  • Crisis Prevention/Intervention training certificate
  • AODA Customer Service/IASR Training
Preferred Qualifications
  • Leadership skills and ability to lead small groups
  • Well-developed understanding of TR tools and ability to design rehab and adapted recreation programming
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
