Job Summary

GroundTruth Exploration Inc is seeking a highly skilled Geological Field Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our exploration geoscience team, you will be responsible for collecting, cataloging, and interpreting geologic data to support the efficient execution and ongoing success of our clients' exploration programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in collecting geologic data on exploration projects through various means, including prospecting, geologic mapping, and other geology-based tasks as required by the Project Geologist.
  • Collaborate with geologists to ensure accurate and timely collection, documentation, and presentation of geologic data.
  • Participate in the QAQC program to ensure the quality and integrity of geologic data.
  • Assist in organizing sample shipments and maintaining a safe, clean, and effective worksite.
  • Perform work at the highest possible standard every day and execute the daily work plan as laid out by the Project Geologist.
  • Manage and maintain a sanitary, safe, and organized camp to foster an environment that respects the well-being and health of all camp members.
  • Collaborate with camp members to share in the upkeep and daily chores of the camp, including cooking, cleaning, collection of firewood, and collection and filtering of water.
  • Maintain and care for all camp and GroundTruth field gear.
  • Ensure all electronic tools for the job are fully charged and ready for the work day each morning.
  • Report all Hazards, Near Misses, Close Calls, Incidents, Injuries, and Non-Conformances.
  • Adhere to all Safety Employee Rights and Responsibilities, including refusal of any unsafe work, while working towards a safe alternative.
  • Work competently, safely, and professionally at all times, in the field, in camp, and transit.
  • Participate in daily Safety Meetings, After Action Shift summaries, and all Emergency Response Plans (ERP).
  • Wear and maintain all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Working Conditions

The Geological Field Specialist position requires the employee to work outside in various terrain and weather conditions. The weather conditions include a temperature range of -20° C up to +35°C, very dry to very humid climate, heavy rainfall, wind, and snow. Terrain can vary from rolling hills to steep mountain sides that will be traversed on foot. Work days in the field may range between 7-10 hour shifts, 7 days a week, for the duration of the project. The project location may be reached by a variety of transportation methods, including truck, helicopter, boat, fixed-wing aircraft, or all-terrain vehicles. Every camp will be provided with a wall tent or tents of similar structure, depending on location, satellite internet, and all other camp elements.

Employees will be working and living in close quarters with the rest of their crew for the duration of the project. Communication outside of camp may be limited due to the remote and isolated nature of the project location. It is essential to recognize that transportation between the project and the city may take upwards of 10 hours.

Medical conditions that may be serious in nature, such as severe allergies, breathing conditions, heart conditions, diabetes, epilepsy, and others, should be disclosed to the Safety & Training Officer, Direct Supervisor, and/or Director of Exploration. It is crucial that the company knows what kind of care is required in the event of an emergency, as it may take 10 or more hours to transport a person in need of professional medical care from a project location to a health center.

Lifting and Physical Requirements

This role requires a high degree of physical strength and stamina to perform the job responsibilities. Physical demands may include:

  • Lifting up to 50 Lbs. unassisted.
  • Repetitive bending.
  • Hiking on uneven/mountainous terrain for extended periods of time.
  • Exposure to cold and heat.
  • Exposure to noise.

  • Garmin InReach/GPS 66i.
  • Compass.
  • Sat phone.
  • Saw.
Gear Requirements

Employees will be required to supply appropriate personal gear, including a sleeping bag, work clothes and underlayers, appropriate head gear (for heat and cold), work gloves, full rain gear (jacket and pants), appropriate work boots with rigid ankle support, and a Leatherman or similar multi-tool knife.
