Environmental Specialist (Waste Management)

(Permanent, Full-time position)

Reporting to the Assistant Director Environment and Lands the Environmental Specialist will be working closely with the Environmental Team and in partnership with other departments of KRG. More specifically, the Environmental Specialist will:

  • Provide assistance and expertise in general environment issues to the KRG, and / or the Northern Villages (NV);
  • Implement the Residual Material Management Plan, in collaboration with the NVs and other partners of the Plan;
  • Provide technical assistance to the NVs for the implementation of new waste management methods and practices, including the preparation of information, awareness and education activities for the public, as well as the organization of training for municipal employees.
  • Undertake environmental inspections in the NVs and in the region;
  • Collaborate with the Ministry of, Environment on environmental matters;
  • Assist the KRG and or NVs in applying for certificates of authorization under Chapter 1 of the Environmental Quality Act;
  • Assist the environmental technicians on any of their environmental duties;
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in environmental studies or in a related field (a master degree in environmental studies or in a related field would be considered an asset);
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the field of waste management;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently with limited supervision;
  • Strong team work and relationship management competencies;
  • Good understanding of Aboriginal issues and the North in general is considered an asset;
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in at least two of the following languages: Inuktitut, English, French;
  • Working knowledge of computer software applications (Microsoft Office 2010);
  • Ability to travel frequently throughout Nunavik.

Place of work: Kuujjuaq, Quebec

Salary: Min; $58 4660/year, Max: $100 085/year

Cost of living differential: Minimum of $8 500/year

Food allowance: Minimum of $3 707/year

Annual leave trips: maximum of 3 per person annually

Simplified Pension Plan: 6% employer, 4% employee

Group Insurance

Vacation: 20 days/year

Statutory Holidays: 19 days including 10 during Christmas holidays
