Building Materials Estimator

As a key member of the Qualico Canada team, the Estimator-Lumber will play a crucial role in creating the structural framework that supports roofs, ceilings, and walls in buildings. This position requires a strong focus on preparing models for estimating use, with a primary emphasis on engineered wood products (EWP) design and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities- Develop computer models using computer-aided design (CAD) software to create accurate and detailed designs.
- Review and interpret customer-supplied documents, such as blueprints or drawings, to identify areas that require clarification.
- Assess the constructability of projects and identify opportunities for value engineering to optimize costs and efficiency.
- Collaborate with clients to discuss project details and design specifications, ensuring a clear understanding of project requirements.
- Maintain model price lists and provide guidance to Designers and Sales Department on project pricing.
- Promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with Qualico Canada's Safety Program, policies, and procedures.
- Provide support to other projects or duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Post-secondary education or technical training courses in Engineering, Architecture, or Drafting.
- Knowledge of building codes, wood frame construction practices, construction methods, design principles, and building materials.
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Excel) and drafting and industry design software (Mitek).
- Previous experience in the construction industry or as an Estimator for a home builder or trade partner.
- Previous drafting and design experience in the construction industry.
- Previous experience in the lumber and building materials industry.
- Building trusting and successful working relationships.
- Cooperating with team members in an open, positive, and respectful manner.
- Setting clear, measurable, and achievable goals.
- Taking responsibility for the outcomes of decisions and actions.
- Continuously pursuing learning and growth.
This role primarily works in an office setting during regular business hours, with occasional travel to sites and overtime required. After a probationary period, a flexible workplace policy will be available.
