Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lifeguard/Instructor to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Vancouver. As a Lifeguard/Instructor, you will be responsible for providing safety and supervision to all members, instructing swim lessons, and performing cleaning duties and tasks as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide safety and supervision to all members in the aquatic facility
  • Instruct swim lessons according to the YMCA Swim Program
  • Perform cleaning duties and tasks as required to maintain a safe and clean facility
  • Assist in the training and supervision of aquatic volunteers
  • Assist with the delivery of aquatic programs and special events
  • Work as a team with other lifeguards and instructors to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming facility
Requirements
  • Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 3 years)
  • CPR level C and AED certificate (valid within 1 year)
  • National Lifeguard - Pool Option
  • Swim Instructor certification or equivalent
  • Experience as a Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor - preferred
  • YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferred
  • Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) or equivalent
  • Aquatic related certifications from a recognized certifying body (LSS, Red Cross, BCRPA, etc.) - preferred
  • High-school, must have completed Grade 10. Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Access to reliable transportation or a vehicle
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
  • 3 professional references
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge in Lifesaving Society standards, policies, principles, and program expectations
  • Exceptionally sound judgment skills
  • Strong ability to work within, and contribute to a collaborative team environment
  • The ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, Y staff, and Y members
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to co-workers, supervisors, Y staff, and Y members
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills
  • Demonstrate a commitment to customer service
