Job Summary

The Research Coordinator will provide coordination support to the Department of Surgery's research program, reporting to the Administrative Officer. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the preparation and submission of competitive applications to research funding agencies
  • Liaising with researchers to determine research needs and providing guidance on potential funding sources
  • Assisting with research accounting activities and providing feedback on research applications
  • Acting as liaison with internal and external granting agencies and the Queen's Office of Research Services

Key Responsibilities

Research Program Support

  • Act as a resource person, liaison, and communicator for research-related matters, including grants, contracts, ethics, research accounting, finance, human resources, and procurement
  • Support the preparation and submission of competitive applications to research funding agencies by providing guidance and assistance to researchers
  • Ensure that opportunities for research funding are investigated and distributed appropriately to researchers
  • Act as administrative liaison between researchers and external funding agencies

Postgraduate Residency & Fellowship Training Program Support

  • Collaborate with the Department of Surgery's PGME office to prepare the Academic Schedule for Orthopaedics
  • Organize all aspects of Ortho Specialty Days, including scheduling guest speakers, booking classrooms, and preparing the agenda
  • Oversee the production of the OSCE exams, including booking the Clinical Education Centre and reviewing exam questions and answers

Orthopaedic Divisional Support

  • Assist in the development and management of the budget for the Division of Orthopedics
  • Provide administrative support for the Division of Orthopaedics, ensuring all guidelines are met
  • Act as secretary to the monthly Division meetings, quarterly Research Rounds, and annual Division Staff Retreat

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a University degree, plus several years of experience in an area relevant to the position involving research coordination, project management, or financial management
  • Previous experience in office administration and financial administration
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures, as well as university structure and financial/computing systems

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
  • The ability to take initiative and assess and establish priorities while working in an environment with multiple interruptions and strict deadlines
