Job Summary
The Research Coordinator will provide coordination activities in support of the Department of Surgery's research program, reporting to the Administrative Officer. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the preparation and submission of competitive applications to research funding agencies
- Liaising with researchers to determine research needs and providing guidance on potential funding sources
- Assisting with research accounting activities and providing feedback on research applications
- Acting as liaison with internal and external granting agencies and the Queen's Office of Research Services
Key Responsibilities
The Research Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Providing administrative support to the Division of Orthopedic Surgery and the Postgraduate Surgical Residency training program
- Leading special projects in support of the Division's academic mission
- Coordinating and providing administrative support to the Department's Research Committee meetings
- Gathering and reviewing research information for the annual departmental report
- Setting up and maintaining filing systems and maintaining a running database of all research projects, grants, and Departmental publications
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Completion of a University degree, plus several years of experience in an area relevant to the position involving research coordination, project management, or financial management
- Previous experience in office administration and financial administration
- Knowledge of university policies and procedures, as well as university structure and financial/computing systems
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate will possess:
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure
- Discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive administrative and research information
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a strong attention to detail
- Advanced computer knowledge, specifically of the Internet, Microsoft Office, and database programs
Decision Making
The Research Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Setting priorities and determining which project requires the most attention
- Determining coordination required in preparing grant and contract proposals
- Making recommendations regarding improvements to grant applications
- Determining appropriate use of PeopleSoft to track and report data for individual research accounts
