Grande Prairie, Canada Pembina Pipeline Corporation Full time

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Pembina Pipeline Corporation is a leading energy transportation and midstream provider, with a legacy of over 65 years in the industry. We manage pipelines that transport hydrocarbon liquids and natural gas products primarily sourced from Western Canada. Our portfolio includes gathering and processing facilities, as well as a comprehensive oil and natural gas liquids infrastructure and logistics business. Our operations span the hydrocarbon value chain, enabling us to deliver a full suite of midstream and marketing services to our clients in the energy sector.

Our organization prioritizes not only achieving results but also the methods employed to reach those outcomes. We are committed to the values of Safety, Trust, Respect, Collaboration, and Entrepreneurship. Fostering a positive employee experience and promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace where our team members feel engaged, valued, and empowered is essential to our goal of being an employer of choice.

We place a high priority on the safety of our communities, clients, contractors, and employees, firmly believing that all incidents can be prevented. Adherence to all policies, procedures, and regulations is mandatory, and our Life Saving Rules represent fundamental guidelines that everyone should understand and uphold. Working with Pembina means prioritizing safety in every aspect of our operations.

Position Overview:

Pembina Pipeline Corporation is seeking a Safety Advisor for our operations, specifically in the Grande Prairie area, to support our pipeline assets. This role will report to the Safety Supervisor (Central) within the Safety Business Unit, part of Pembina's External Affairs, Legal, and Sustainability Division.

As advocates of Pembina's Safety Culture – Zero by Choice, the Safety Team is committed to delivering high-quality products and services by overseeing enterprise-wide occupational health and safety, process safety, physical security, and emergency management programs, as well as governance of the Operations Management System. The Safety team ensures compliance with all company, federal, and local health, safety, security, and emergency management regulations, thereby fostering a safe and healthy work environment for our employees, contractors, and the communities we serve.

The primary function of this role is to collaborate with operations to implement and manage proactive prevention initiatives aimed at enhancing performance and ensuring compliance with regulatory, industry, and corporate standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Promote safe and cost-effective preventative and loss management strategies in daily pipeline operations to minimize potential losses and ensure adherence to regulatory and corporate policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with operations management and staff to cultivate a robust safety culture.
  • Participate in or review hazard assessments for high-risk activities, such as confined space entry and construction projects, providing on-site safety support and ensuring appropriate controls are in place.
  • Assist in the review, development, and documentation of field procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements, conducting field reviews to verify implementation.
  • Engage in various internal and external audits and reviews, including ground disturbance, energy isolation, and safety culture assessments.
  • Actively participate in area safety meetings, delivering regular presentations on critical safety topics and following up on identified safety-related items.
  • Review and assist with incident investigations, reporting, and follow-up actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Coordinate updates and development of Safety Standards and Lessons Learned from Incidents.
  • Support the review, development, and documentation of procedures and task analyses to ensure compliance with Pembina and regulatory requirements during construction, maintenance, and operational activities.
  • Collaborate with project managers to establish and execute safety project inspection requirements and activities, liaising with third-party project safety inspectors for oversight.
  • Serve as the field safety liaison for internal or external parties requiring field information or activities.
  • Uphold Pembina's safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the "Life Saving Rules".
  • Contribute to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in pipeline operations or related industries with transferable skills.
  • Designation or completion of one of the following is an asset:
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (Canadian designation).
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate(s).
  • Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or Technical Certificates.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable industry safety requirements, standards, policies, and procedures, including those of OH&S (BC and Alberta), AER, CER, OGC, and CSA.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to positively engage with field and project personnel.
  • Proficient in MS Office and other business-related computer programs and applications.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License, with a requirement to provide a Driver's Abstract.

This position requires the successful candidate to reside within a specified distance of the Grande Prairie office.

Pembina's Flexible Work Standard allows eligible employees to work remotely on designated days.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the country of the position. The final candidate will undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks, including a Criminal Record Check.

Our expectations are high, and our rewards reflect this: We treat our people well through our total rewards package, community engagement, and volunteer opportunities, all within an equitable, safe, respectful, inclusive, and accessible environment.

We recognize that diverse perspectives and experiences fuel innovation and enrich our workplace culture. We firmly believe that every individual's unique background, identity, and contributions contribute to our collective success. We encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences.
