I. Position Overview
The Landfill Operations Management Trainee (LOMT) role is an integral part of a comprehensive training initiative lasting up to 18 months. Under the guidance of Waste Management frontline supervisors, including Area Directors and Operations Managers, the LOMT will engage in various operational activities at a landfill site. The primary mentor will be the Landfill District Manager at the assigned training location. Through a structured training curriculum and practical projects, the LOMT will gain a thorough understanding of daily landfill operations, encompassing safety protocols, environmental compliance, financial management, personnel oversight, heavy machinery operation, community engagement, and waste management processes. This program aims to cultivate future Operations Managers and District Managers, paving the way for advancement to higher leadership roles.

Relocation is a requirement (at WM's expense) upon completion of the program, as opportunities for management positions at the training site are limited. This will be discussed in detail during the interview.

II. Key Responsibilities

Complete the LOMT training curriculum, which includes foundational, intermediate, and advanced training levels, utilizing the WM Learning Management System. Participate in all mandatory group training sessions. Operations Management: Acquire knowledge and expertise in the daily management of landfill operations, including fill sequencing, waste placement, equipment utilization, and traffic management. Gain hands-on experience with heavy equipment operation and maintenance. Learn effective personnel management techniques through practical training. Understand landfill design principles, including excavation, liner systems, and gas control mechanisms. Develop proficiency in leachate and landfill gas management, along with insights into renewable energy operations. Engage with community relations through participation in public events. Familiarize with environmental monitoring practices and regulatory compliance. Understand financial processes related to landfill operations and reporting. Learn about waste stream management and pricing strategies. Commit to the WM Safety Program, fostering a culture of safety awareness. Contribute to operational reviews and provide constructive feedback. Engage in mentorship programs. Perform additional duties as assigned, including special projects and interim management roles, with a focus on experiential learning.

III. Supervisory Duties
This position may involve occasional leadership responsibilities throughout the training program.

IV. Qualifications
The following qualifications are necessary for this role:

A. Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) or, in lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma or GED (accredited) with four years of relevant experience. Experience: Five years of relevant experience with increasing responsibility in fields such as construction, engineering, or operations management.

B. Preferred Certifications

Professional Engineer (PE) Registered Land Surveyor (RLS) Professional Geologist (PG)

C. Required Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends. Ability to work outdoors and in maintenance environments. Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Exceptional time management and organizational skills. Proven leadership capabilities. V. Work Environment and Physical Requirements

The LOMT role involves both office and fieldwork, with significant exposure to outdoor conditions. Candidates should be prepared for physical demands, including operating heavy machinery and working in various weather conditions. Non-traditional work schedules may be required, including extended hours and weekends.
