AECOM Western Canada is actively seeking a Senior Engineer specializing in Communications Systems within the Transportation sector. This role is integral to our multidisciplinary Systems Engineering team, focusing on both current and upcoming projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design comprehensive Communications sub-systems tailored for Transportation, including fibre optic networks, radio communications, integrated systems, passenger information, telephony, CCTV, and more.
- Create detailed design documentation such as block diagrams, network layouts, equipment configurations, and cable schedules.
- Develop design reports throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
- Draft test procedures and reports to ensure design verification and validation.
- Prepare construction-ready drawings and documentation.
- Assist in the implementation phase of projects, including installation, testing, commissioning, and final reporting.
- Contribute to procurement by drafting technical specifications and evaluating vendor bids.
- Oversee and guide Systems vendors through to project completion.
- Collaborate with various technical disciplines, ensuring seamless integration of Systems interfaces.
- Manage System Interfaces and create Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
- Lead technical discussions with clients and key stakeholders.
- Facilitate technical training for client personnel.
- Contribute to project planning and requirements management.
- Assist in cost estimation, scheduling, and budgeting efforts.
- Review and provide feedback on designs from team members.
- Mentor junior staff as part of team development.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in designing Systems for rail and transit projects.
- Valid Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in rail and transit systems.
- Experience with transit systems in Western Canada is preferred; Eastern Canada experience is a plus.
- Background in Owner's Engineer roles.
- Expertise in designing IP backbone networks, integrated communication systems, and safety systems.
- Experience in Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, and Operations & Maintenance.
- Familiarity with rail project codes and standards such as NFPA 130 and EN 50121.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary project framework.
- Self-driven with minimal supervision required.
- Strong leadership skills for discussions with senior project stakeholders.
- Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Willingness to travel for work-related purposes.
