About the Opportunity

Westinghouse Electric Company LLC is a leading supplier of custom equipment, process systems, and engineering services for the nuclear industry. As part of our growing team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the design of mechanical systems and/or components both in the traditional nuclear market and in new initiatives to develop nuclear technology and future nuclear-powered systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interface with customers and outside vendors on issues and decisions surrounding project execution
  • Research and analyze customer requests, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications in support of developing high-quality proposals
  • Assist with the development of test procedures for systems to ensure compliance with design specifications
  • Assist with the operation of the final tooling system in customer facilities
  • Provide input and direction to the development of conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process
  • Perform classical hand calculations to qualify systems and/or components against applicable codes and standards
  • Prepare clear and concise design reports and technical specifications
  • Drive innovation and new methods in the development of new technologies and nuclear systems
  • Confer with senior engineers and other personnel to develop procedures, resolve project issues, and provide technical information to customers and vendors
  • Develop project documentation in accordance with the Westinghouse Quality Assurance Manual (QAM)
  • Develop component specifications and purchasing requests in compliance with the Westinghouse QAM
  • Support assembly and oversee the assembly of developed systems
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
  • Collaborate globally within the Westinghouse Engineering framework alongside SMEs and nuclear specialists
  • Support the resolution of issues throughout design, manufacture, and testing of systems and/or components
Requirements
  • 5+ years of related engineering experience
  • P. Eng. in the province of Ontario
  • Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfortable leading meetings and giving presentations
  • Excellent problem-solving and time management skills
  • Self-motivated and highly organized
  • Strong interpersonal skills, experience working effectively in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail
Preferred
  • Experience working in a quality program that meets the requirements of CSA
  • Extensive experience in conceptual design development, design reviews, and engineering change control processes
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing techniques, welding procedures or specifications, and associated inspection techniques
  • Application of the relevant codes and standards applicable to the design of nuclear components and systems, including specialized tooling and remote handling equipment
  • Experience interfacing with customer representatives and providing oversight of vendors
