If you excel in communication, consider joining the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES) team, where you will play a vital role in wildland fire and emergency response efforts, handle media inquiries, and offer communication and marketing support related to forest fire management.

The Integrated Services Section (ISS) is crucial in planning, supporting, and delivering many essential functions that contribute to the wildland fire management and emergency services mandate of the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES).

About Us:
The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services provides comprehensive forest fire management services across the province, including: fire management policies and strategies, fire prevention and detection, and essential resources for managing forest fires; aviation flight and maintenance crews and equipment in support of forest fire and natural resources management, as well as other specialized aviation services, including non-scheduled air transport to all government ministries and agencies; and emergency management in response to forest fires, floods, drought/low water, dam failures, erosion, soil and bedrock instability, crude oil and natural gas exploration, natural gas, and hydrocarbon underground storage, and salt solution mining emergencies.

The successful candidates will support either the North West Region or the North East Region. Please indicate your preferred location when submitting your application.

What can I expect to do in this role?

You will:

Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of the branch's communication strategies, plans, and outreach initiatives Research, compose, review, and refine educational and promotional materials, products, and information Design and coordinate a diverse range of initiatives to promote AFFES programs and activities Provide guidance, support, and direction to branch staff on public relations programs and outreach initiatives Contribute to issues management by remaining informed about ministry and AFFES program priorities Act as a media liaison by crafting key messages, responding to media inquiries, and serving as a spokesperson during wildland fire and other emergency situations

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirements:

You possess a valid Class G driver's licence or equivalent as recognized by the Province of Ontario.

Interpersonal and communication skills:

You demonstrate excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills to discuss client objectives and requirements, explain initiatives and programs, and respond to inquiries from the public and media. You have well-developed written communication skills to create a variety of materials, translating technical and/or specialized content into accessible language for public distribution. You can effectively utilize proper grammar and punctuation, various writing styles, and editing techniques to produce a range of materials and refine content authored by others. You possess knowledge of communication theory, techniques, planning methods, and practices to establish objectives, strategies, and plans for communication projects and initiatives, determining the appropriate style, tone, and approach.

Project management skills:

You have demonstrated project management skills to facilitate project planning and lead tasks. You can effectively manage multiple tasks to work concurrently on several projects with tight deadlines.

Technical expertise:

You possess knowledge of social and economic issues and trends related to forest fire management to design effective communication initiatives. You have research skills to investigate issues and trends within the Ministry and government concerning forest fire management.

Analytical and problem-solving skills:

You have analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and assess requirements, recognize emerging or contentious issues, and prepare issues management and briefing materials.
