We are currently seeking Two (2) Casual Support Program Advisors . The available shifts encompass days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. This role offers significant flexibility and is scheduled on a rotational, as-needed basis without a guaranteed pattern or number of weekly hours.

The Support Program Advisor will facilitate opportunities for developing essential job readiness skills, enhancing social skills (including coping strategies, appropriate interactions, and mindfulness), life skills (such as cooking, budgeting, laundry, and self-care), and engaging in Community Participation Activities.

This position requires an individual who is passionate about and proactive in the creation and execution of programming. The ability to work collaboratively within a team is essential, as well as engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, consultants, colleagues, community members, family members, and friends. A resilient direct support professional is needed, someone who is adept at navigating conflict, overcoming challenges, and creatively providing support to individuals in crisis situations.

The Support Program Advisor delivers assistance to program participants while adhering to established policies and procedures, including Employment Standards, Salvation Army Accreditation, and the Services & Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, 2008.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Completed Developmental Services Worker (DSW) Diploma or an equivalent degree/diploma (PSW/CYW/SSW) and/or relevant work experience in human services.
  • Valid and current Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C Certificate, with regular application in practice.
  • Ability to obtain a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate upon hire and utilize it in practice regularly.
  • Valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License and a current Driver's abstract for review and verification that meets The Salvation Army's standards.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Knowledge:
  • Preferred minimum of 6 months to 1 year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly those with dual diagnoses of mental health challenges and developmental disabilities.
  • Experience in implementing Individual Support Plans.
  • Background in community outreach.
  • Medication administration experience is preferred.
Skills and Capabilities:
  • Strong counselling and de-escalation skills are essential.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and email are required.
  • Ability to successfully undergo applicable screening and background checks that meet The Salvation Army's standards (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening, completed no less than 2 months prior to hire.
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications related to position responsibilities.
