We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Surgical Unit Support Specialist to join our dynamic team at North York General Hospital. As a key member of the Inpatient Surgery Unit, you will play a vital role in ensuring the optimal function of the unit and providing exceptional patient care.

About the Role

As a Surgical Unit Support Specialist, you will work closely with physicians, registered nurses, and unit secretaries to provide support to patients and patient care staff. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to patient flow and enhancing patient family-centered care in the Inpatient Surgery Unit
  • Providing excellent written and verbal communication skills to establish positive relationships with patients, families, and co-workers
  • Participating as a member of the interprofessional care team and maintaining collaborative working relationships
  • Providing patient-centered direct patient care following the guidance of a regulated healthcare provider
  • Utilizing effective communication skills with team members to ensure seamless care delivery

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • A completed Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate from a College of Applied Arts and Technology
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

This is a part-time permanent position with 8 and 12 hour shifts, days and weekends in the Inpatient Surgery Unit.
