Position Overview

The role of a Material Handler involves the efficient management of inventory processes, including the picking, packing, and dispatching of customer orders. You will also be tasked with the meticulous counting, verification, receipt, and storage of incoming materials from vendors and returns from customers. A keen eye for detail is essential to uphold high standards of customer service and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all Health and Safety regulations while executing job responsibilities.
  • Handle loading and unloading of trucks, utilizing forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Perform receiving tasks, which include:
    • Verifying received materials against packing slips upon unloading shipments or returns, documenting any discrepancies or damages.
    • Printing and confirming computer-generated receiving documents and inputting received materials into the inventory system.
    • Identifying and appropriately storing special order and damaged materials.
    • Documenting shipping discrepancies on freight carrier's Bill of Lading, initiating claims, and forwarding necessary paperwork to the designated team member.
  • Execute picking, packing, and shipping duties, which entail:
    • Selecting materials for customer orders, ensuring accurate counts and comparisons with shipping documentation.
    • Assembling and packaging materials suitably for customer pick-up or shipment.
    • Completing necessary documentation for shipments requiring third-party carrier delivery or Transportation of Dangerous Goods compliance.
  • Report any inventory discrepancies and damaged or defective materials that may affect customer service levels to the Supervisor.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety within the warehouse by disposing of empty cartons, metal banding, pallets, and other waste.
  • Notify the Warehouse Supervisor or Profit Centre Manager of any safety concerns within the warehouse environment.
  • Assist colleagues in providing service to customers at the counter.
  • Carry out additional tasks as directed by the Profit Centre Manager.
  • Provide support for deliveries as required, including accompanying on-site deliveries and assisting with loading and unloading tasks.
  • Offer backup support for deliveries, operating delivery vehicles, and covering for team members during absences.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent; post-secondary education is an asset.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a warehouse setting.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to acquire comprehensive product knowledge.
  • Capability to learn and safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately process orders.
  • Proficiency in using the relevant software systems for order processing.
  • Intermediate mathematical skills.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Punctual and reliable with a strong work ethic.
  • Physical capability to frequently lift and/or carry up to 80 lbs.

Preferred Skills:

  • Previous experience or knowledge of HVAC products sold at the Profit Centre.
  • Familiarity with M3, Eclipse, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience in operating delivery trucks or large vans.
  • Knowledge of the local area and surrounding communities.
