Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a skilled Anesthesia Assistant to join our team at Vancouver General Hospital. As an Anesthesia Assistant, you will provide technical support and clinical assistance with induction, maintenance, and recovery phases of anesthesia, working under the direct clinical supervision of the Anesthesiologist and as a member of an integrated surgical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Anesthesiologist in developing and implementing the anesthesia care plan and monitor physiological responses of patients to the induction of anesthesia during surgery.
  • Provide technical support and clinical assistance with anesthesia procedures, ensuring effective and safe patient care.
  • Operate, prepare, and maintain anesthesia equipment, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Participate in ongoing education and professional development to maintain and advance clinical competence.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure seamless patient care and efficient workflow.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognized Anesthesia Assistant Program and current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society (CAS).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current anesthesia assistant theory and practice within a client/family-centered model for care.
  • Broad knowledge of the CAS clinical practice guidelines for Anesthesia Assistants.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
