As a Co-op Accountant within our Tax division, you will be part of a diverse group of professionals committed to delivering tailored tax solutions amidst a complex regulatory landscape.

This position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to our mission of providing exceptional service to our clients. You will engage in developing strategies that ensure compliance and enhance reporting accuracy while minimizing risks and maximizing returns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cultivate technical expertise in areas such as compilations, reviews, bookkeeping, and taxation.
  • Acquire and apply knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and/or Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), as well as the Canadian Income Tax Act and related regulations.
  • Organize files for new clients and newly established businesses, managing multiple projects concurrently while conducting inventory assessments.
  • Investigate various tax-related issues and assess their potential impacts.
  • Gather and analyze pertinent financial and tax information.
  • Examine, investigate, and rectify discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Create charts of accounts and prepare entries for posting.
  • Calculate taxes owed and prepare tax returns for various entities.
  • Draft correspondence, technical reports, client summaries, and presentations that outline engagement findings and highlights.
  • Collaborate with the client engagement team to build and maintain relationships with client contacts.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and approaches to enhance work processes while effectively utilizing MNP's internal programs and systems.
  • Maintain flexibility for potential travel as required.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in commerce or business administration, preferably with a focus on accounting or finance.
  • Working towards meeting the prerequisites for admission into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
  • Previous experience in a tax or accounting-related office environment is advantageous.
  • Experience in customer service or client service roles is a plus.
  • Familiarity with accounting and tax software is beneficial.
