Accountant Co-op Opportunity

In a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment, MNP is seeking a talented Co-op Accountant to join our Tax team. As a trusted advisor, you will design solutions for clients that meet compliance and reporting requirements, minimize risk, drive efficiencies, and maximize returns.

This 4-month term opportunity is perfect for students working towards a bachelor's degree in commerce or business administration, with a focus on accounting or finance. You will have the chance to develop technical skills in areas such as compilations, reviews, bookkeeping, and tax, while applying knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and/or Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE), the Canadian Income Tax Act, and related legislation.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop technical skills in areas such as compilations, reviews, bookkeeping, and tax.
  2. Apply knowledge of IFRS and/or ASPE, the Canadian Income Tax Act, and related legislation.
  3. Set-up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses, manage multiple files simultaneously, and conduct inventory counts.
  4. Research various tax-related issues and conclude on their potential implications.
  5. Collect and analyze relevant financial and tax data.
  6. Review, investigate, and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  7. Establish charts of accounts and prepare entries for posting to accounts.
  8. Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns for various types of entities.
  9. Prepare correspondence, technical reports, client summaries, and presentations outlining engagement findings, facts, and highlights.
  10. Collaborate with client engagement teams and build relationships with client contacts.
  11. Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes while effectively using MNP internal programs and systems.

Skills and Experience:

  1. Working towards a bachelor's degree in commerce or business administration (accounting or finance major is preferred).
  2. Working towards prerequisites for admission into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
  3. Previous tax or accounting-related office experience is considered an asset.
  4. Customer service and/or client service experience is considered an asset.
  5. Experience working with accounting and tax software is considered an asset.
