Position Overview:

The University of Toronto is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Sessional Instructional Assistant within the Faculty of Arts & Science, specifically in the Department of Art History. This position involves supporting the course FAH101H1S, which explores significant monuments in art history.

Course Overview:

This course serves as an introduction to the intersection of art and history, covering a wide range of artistic works and architectural styles from antiquity to modern times. Students will engage with various artifacts and structures, particularly those found in Toronto, to enhance their understanding of art historical concepts. The curriculum emphasizes the development of critical skills necessary for analyzing and articulating thoughts on art and architecture.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Participate in weekly lectures conducted online.
  • Facilitate one or more in-person tutorial sessions.
  • Assess and manage student assignments and grades.
  • Supervise examinations and tests.
  • Provide regular office hours for student consultations.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • A solid foundation in Art History, with a comprehensive understanding of relevant historical and geographical contexts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MA or PhD) in Art History.
  • Experience in evaluating undergraduate student performance.
  • Interest in innovative teaching methods that promote student engagement and effective assessment strategies.

Compensation:

The role offers a competitive hourly wage along with vacation pay, ensuring a fair remuneration for the responsibilities undertaken.
