Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Child Protection Specialist to join our team at the Government of Prince Edward Island. As a key member of our Social Development and Seniors department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and Assess Child Protection Reports: Conduct thorough investigations to determine if a child is in need of protection, and provide child protection services in accordance with the Child Protection Act.
  • Provide Case Direction and Mentoring: Offer guidance and support to less experienced Child Protection Social Workers and non-Social Workers, and provide case direction to ensure the best possible outcomes for children.
  • Develop and Implement Service Plans: Create and implement service plans to ensure children's safety and enhance parental functioning to mitigate child safety risks.
  • Collaborate with Community Resources: Work with service providers and the community to develop and enhance client resources, and access and coordinate appropriate community-based resources.
  • Represent the Director of Child Protection in Court: Prepare cases for legal interventions and represent the Director of Child Protection in court.
Requirements
  • Master of Social Work Degree or Bachelor of Social Work Degree: A Master of Social Work degree or a Bachelor of Social Work degree with considerable experience is required. Consideration may be given to applicants with a Master of Social Work degree or a Bachelor of Social Work degree with some experience.
  • Registration with the PEI Social Work Registration Board: Must be eligible for registration with the PEI Social Work Registration Board and for delegation under the PEI Child Protection Act.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for this role.
  • Valid PEI Driver's License: A valid PEI driver's license is required, and the employee is required to provide a motor vehicle for the purposes of carrying out employment functions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Experience in Court Work: Previous experience in court work will be considered an asset.
  • Additional Relevant Education and Experience: Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.
