Job Summary

The Government of Prince Edward Island is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Child Protection Social Worker to join our team. As a delegated child protection social worker, you will be responsible for investigating and assessing child protection reports, providing child protection services, and mentoring and providing case direction to less experienced social workers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough investigations and assessments of child protection reports to determine if a child is in need of protection.
  • Provide child protection services in accordance with the Child Protection Act, including home visits, interviews with family members, and documenting relevant information.
  • Collaborate with police and other stakeholders to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
  • Develop and implement clinical assessments and service plans to mitigate child safety risks and enhance parental functioning.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to less experienced social workers, including mentoring and case direction.
  • Represent the Director of Child Protection in Court and prepare cases for legal interventions.
  • Access and coordinate community-based resources to support children and families.
  • Prioritize and manage caseload expectations to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Provide after-hours emergency child protection coverage on a rotation basis.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A degree in social work or a related field.
  • Experience in child protection or a related field.
  • Strong investigation and assessment skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong leadership and supervision skills.
