Financial Accountant

Join Our Financial Services Team

The City of Kelowna is seeking a skilled finance professional to enhance our Financial Services division. This role is embedded within the Treasury section of Financial Planning, which is tasked with overseeing investment and debt portfolios, managing reserve utilization, crafting financial models, and developing funding strategies.

As part of our dedicated team of Accountants, you will be responsible for preparing account summaries, conducting analyses and reporting, reconciling statements, preparing journal entries, and delivering comprehensive financial reports. Additionally, you will assist the public with municipal transactions, review and analyze financial reports, and implement corrective measures as necessary. You will also guide and mentor other financial services personnel, providing training and advice on accounting functions, policies, and procedures.

Key Qualifications

  • A Business Degree in Accounting or Finance, including a minimum of 10 CPA PREP courses
  • At least four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting
  • Familiarity with financial modeling, financial software systems, internal controls, complex financial statement preparation, budgeting, municipal accounting, and auditing is advantageous.
  • Strong people management skills
  • Demonstrated responsibility and accountability
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling capabilities are highly valued.
