About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accounting Specialist to join our team at FortisBC. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting financial data to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our financial reports.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform complex financial analyses and prepare reports for presentation to external auditors, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders.
  • Examine and control monthly general ledger balances and journal entries, and investigate any discrepancies or anomalies.
  • Develop and maintain reports and schedules for internal stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and external auditors.
  • Research and analyze financial data to identify trends and areas for improvement, and make recommendations to management.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports prior to external release.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of new or modified systems, processes, and procedures.
Requirements
  • Completion of a degree from a recognized accredited institution.
  • Completion of a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • Three (3) years' experience in accounting at a senior level with strong emphasis on financial analysis and in-depth understanding of accounting theory (GAAP).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills – manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of ERP accounting systems (preferably SAP).
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer systems and related programs including Excel.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to respond to and resolve demanding problems, prepare documentation, discuss ideas and respond to management/auditor inquiries.
