We are excited to present a remarkable opportunity within our Managing General Agent (MGA) underwriting division for a Property and Casualty Underwriting Expert. In this role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing the growth and profitability of our MGA partnerships by fostering robust relationships with MGA underwriters and management through various engagements, including meetings, referrals, audits, and contract oversight.

Your Responsibilities

  • Assess and underwrite non-standard or challenging risks.
  • Conduct thorough underwriting evaluations on new MGA prospects, ensuring alignment with Aviva's MGA appetite and framework, while reviewing methodologies, guidelines, pricing structures, and coverage terms.
  • Steer the MGA portfolio by analyzing performance, developing profit enhancement recommendations, identifying potential contract improvements, and suggesting overall enhancements to MGA collaborations.
  • Provide underwriting assistance to existing MGAs, including conducting audits (both virtual and in-person), managing risk referrals, and reviewing wording to maintain profitable partnerships within Aviva's risk management practices.
  • Collaborate with various internal teams to draft and revise MGA contracts, meet compliance objectives, and ensure adequate risk controls are established.
  • Engage in or lead quarterly business reviews with MGA leadership and underwriting teams.
  • Navigate Aviva's internal processes effectively to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships and collaborate effectively within the MGA team, across Aviva, and with our MGA partners.

Your Qualifications

  • A university degree or college diploma in Insurance is preferred.
  • CIP designation (or enrollment) is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in technical commercial lines underwriting.
  • Exceptional marketing and relationship-building skills with both internal and external stakeholders; strong sales consultation and pipeline management abilities.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of complex risks relevant to the underwriting segments.
  • Developing expertise in applying specialized knowledge to non-standard risks.
  • Ability to identify and communicate workflow barriers or specific account challenges to leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and decision-making skills.
  • Proficient leadership, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • A professional and collaborative demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Functional knowledge of French is a plus.
  • A proactive approach to enhancing the MGA/customer experience.
