Commercial Underwriter

Aviva Canada Inc. is seeking a skilled Commercial Lines Property and Casualty (P&C) Underwriter to join our Small Medium and Enterprise (SME) commercial insurance business unit. As a key member of our Ottawa Branch team, you will be responsible for underwriting new business and servicing a substantial portfolio of commercial P&C accounts.
Key Responsibilities- Assess and Evaluate Risk: Evaluate risk for primarily new and existing business, applying corporate underwriting standards and sharing knowledge and skills with others in the branch.
- Underwriting and Analysis: Analyze reports to determine adequate exposure and loss rating, maintaining awareness of market trends, pricing levels, and policy form amendments.
- Loss Control and Risk Management: Utilize loss control and risk management practices in the underwriting process, responding to inquiries from brokers regarding modification to policy files in a prompt and efficient manner.
- Broker Relationships: Develop and maintain excellent broker relationships and management of assigned broker portfolio, providing excellent customer service.
- 1-3 years of commercial P&C underwriting experience
- CIP in progress or completed is preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and administration skills
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Good computer skills
- Ability to meet challenging deadlines and perform effectively under pressure
- Knowledge of RTM system is an asset
