Job Overview
Position Scope: The Lead Project Engineer plays a crucial role in the advancement and execution of manufacturing process technologies. This position involves leveraging expertise in Injection Molding to drive enhancements in Quality, expand Capacity, and spearhead Cost Reduction initiatives. The role requires close collaboration with Research & Development, Quality Assurance, and manufacturing facilities to successfully integrate these manufacturing technologies.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Establish requirements for injection molding processes and automation, guiding projects from initial concept to full commercialization. This includes the creation of specific documentation and procedures related to molding.
- Formulate specifications for part design, machine settings, operational procedures, and validation test plans and protocols.
- Offer technological insights to support product development and ensure designs are manufacturable.
- Collaborate with vendors and plant technicians to effectively achieve project goals.
- Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of a broad range of technical principles, theories, and concepts within manufacturing process technology.
- Maintain a general awareness of various other process technologies.
- Provide innovative and practical solutions to complex problems encountered in the manufacturing process.
- Facilitate communication and coordination of tool design and injection molding process development, ensuring smooth integration into manufacturing sites.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to explore and implement solutions for significant manufacturing challenges.
- Design and execute validation protocols (IQ, OQ, PQ), engineering studies, and experimental designs.
- Efficiently manage projects from the design phase through prototyping and commercial launch, ensuring all stages are properly initiated, planned, executed, monitored, controlled, and concluded.
- Lead cross-functional teams to define, construct, and validate mold build programs successfully.
- Create specifications and acceptance criteria for the procurement of production injection molds.
- Oversee vendor relationships in the design, development, and implementation of injection molds.
- Utilize six-sigma and lean manufacturing principles to enhance injection molding processes.
- Develop processes through experimental testing, data analysis, report preparation, and recommendations.
- Contribute to the technical strategy of projects.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Robust technical expertise in plastic manufacturing operations, including quality, safety, machine operation, troubleshooting, and output management.
- Familiarity with lean principles and process optimization techniques.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, along with skills in lean manufacturing and project management.
- Comprehensive understanding of plastics extrusion and/or injection molding processes.
