Position Overview:

The Corporate Services Department is looking for a meticulous and skilled professional to fulfill the role of Staff Solicitor. Reporting directly to the City Solicitor and Assistant City Solicitor, the incumbent will be responsible for preparing, negotiating, and reviewing legal documents and agreements pertinent to procurement and construction. This includes, but is not limited to, RFPs, RFQs, tenders, MMCD, CCDC, and supplementary conditions, as well as commercial contracts involving complex partnership and operating agreements, funding agreements, and other related documentation.

The successful candidate will also provide legal counsel and opinions on various matters including construction, procurement, municipal, corporate/commercial, environmental, and risk management issues that arise within City departments, particularly in relation to significant civic projects.

Additional responsibilities include reviewing and drafting reports for Council and Committee, offering guidance to administrative staff within the Legal Department, and performing related duties as necessary.


Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) and have a minimum of three years of experience as a Construction/Procurement lawyer, ideally with Corporate/Commercial experience in the municipal or public sector, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

A comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation, client management techniques, policies, rules, regulations, and legal requirements governing municipal operations is essential. Proficiency with BCOnLine and legal research resources is required.

Effective communication skills, both oral and written, are crucial for providing sound legal advice in a clear and concise manner. The ability to prioritize tasks and achieve objectives in a timely fashion is vital for success in this role.

Good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia and a valid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia are mandatory.
