Our Corporate Services Department is looking for a skilled and meticulous individual to join our legal team. Reporting directly to the City Solicitor and Assistant City Solicitor, the Senior Legal Advisor will be responsible for the preparation, negotiation, and review of legal documents and agreements pertinent to procurement and construction projects. This includes but is not limited to RFPs, RFQs, tenders, MMCD, CCDC, and supplementary conditions, as well as complex commercial contracts such as partnership agreements, operating agreements, and funding contracts.

The successful candidate will also provide legal counsel and opinions on various matters including construction, procurement, municipal law, corporate/commercial law, environmental issues, and risk management. This role involves reviewing and drafting reports for Council and Committees, offering guidance to administrative staff within the Legal Department, and performing related duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  1. Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
  2. At least 3 years of experience as a Construction/Procurement lawyer with relevant Corporate/Commercial experience, ideally within the municipal or public sector, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Comprehensive understanding of applicable legislation, client management strategies, and the legal frameworks governing municipal operations.
  4. Proficiency in using BCOnLine and other legal research tools is essential.
  5. Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and concise legal advice, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines are crucial for this position.
  6. Must be in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia and possess a valid Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia.
