Position Summary: We are in search of a compassionate and skilled locum family medicine practitioner to deliver comprehensive, trauma-informed healthcare to a diverse patient population. This role involves addressing complex medical and psychosocial issues, often faced by individuals with significant barriers to accessing care. Our innovative reimbursement model, combined with extended appointment durations, empowers our practitioners to effectively manage challenging health and social circumstances, supporting patients on their path from crisis to recovery.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Deliver primary healthcare services through in-person consultations, virtual visits, and potential outreach initiatives.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team that includes Psychiatrists, Registered Nurses, Mental Health Clinicians, and Social Workers.
  • Engage in shadow billing for both direct and indirect patient care activities.
  • Participate in clinic and provider rounds as scheduled.
  • Assist in data collection and documentation as required.
  • Complete necessary organizational training (e.g., responding to suspected opioid overdoses, facility orientations).

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Active membership with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
  • Possession of appropriate medical liability insurance (e.g., CMPA or equivalent).
  • Willingness to affiliate with a Primary Care Network (PCN).
  • Preferred specializations include opiate agonist therapy, transgender healthcare, procedural skills (e.g., IUD insertions, prenatal care), emergency/urgent care, mental health, and sports medicine.
  • Experience with vulnerable populations (e.g., homeless individuals, refugees, remote outreach) is advantageous.
  • A strong commitment to advocating for and building relationships with senior citizens.
  • Understanding of social determinants of health affecting marginalized and underserved communities.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and familiarity with Netcare is essential.
  • Current CPR certification is required upon commencement.
  • A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record check and child welfare intervention clearance are mandatory.
  • Knowledge of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action is beneficial.

Work Environment and Schedule:

  • This is a locum position.
  • Standard working hours are Monday to Friday.
  • The current ARP rate is competitive after overhead costs.
  • The clinic operates during regular business hours, with no evening or weekend shifts required.
  • Minimum appointment durations are set at 30 minutes, with the option for 60-minute appointments as necessary.
  • Our EMR system is transitioning to Telus' Collaborative Health Records (CHR), which will replace existing systems.
  • Administrative support is provided for patient panel management, appointment scheduling, confirmations, rooming, diagnostics, referrals, and additional services.
  • Access to in-house specialists, including but not limited to, Rapid Access Addictions Medicine (RAAM), Dermatology, Endocrinology, Internal/Occupational Medicine, OB-GYN, Pediatrics (pending), Psychiatry, and Physiatry.
  • Collaboration with allied health services and nursing staff, including audiology, diabetes education/management, counseling, acupuncture, dietetics, and foot care.
