Role OverviewAs a Family Support Specialist, you will play a crucial role in delivering equitable, respectful, and culturally appropriate services to First Nations children and families, aligning with the core values of Kunuwanimano.
Key Responsibilities- Foster and maintain strong relationships with First Nations Councils, elders, committees, and relevant organizations.
- Collaborate with community members to identify service options and strategies that address the unique challenges faced by First Nations children and families.
- Conduct thorough intake and assessment processes to accurately identify and direct community members' needs.
- Develop actionable plans in partnership with clients and other service providers to achieve established goals.
- Refer clients to suitable service providers as necessary and advocate on their behalf when required.
- Ensure all documentation, including client files and case notes, is consistently updated.
- Collect client data for statistical analysis and reporting purposes.
- Implement awareness and prevention programs tailored to the community's needs.
- Attend training sessions, workshops, and meetings as directed by the Supervisor.
- Respond to crisis situations involving children, ensuring their safety through timely intervention.
- Collaborate with a dynamic team and explore career advancement opportunities across various departments.

- A post-secondary diploma in a relevant field (e.g., social service work, child and youth work) with 1-2 years of related experience.
- A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
- Proficiency in a native language is considered a significant asset.
- Strong planning, organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with various internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in various software applications, including word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
- Familiarity with the Child and Family Services Act and knowledge of individual, family, child, adolescent, and group behavior.
- Experience in counseling, case management, file maintenance, and statistical reporting.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A valid "G" Ontario Driver's license, willingness to travel, and flexibility in working hours are essential.
