Freedom of Information Analyst

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Freedom of Information Analyst to join our Information & Privacy department at the Law Society of British Columbia.
Key Responsibilities- Handling Access to Information Requests: Assist in ensuring the Law Society's compliance with the legislative requirements of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) in relation to access to information requests.
- Record Management: Independently search for, identify, and review records that are responsive to requests, including liaising with relevant departments to ensure all relevant records have been located and retrieved.
- Exception Determination: Determine any exceptions under FIPPA that apply to those records, and prepare draft redactions for review by the Information and Privacy Officer and/or the Manager, Privacy, Records and Information Management.
- Team Support: Provide instructions and guidance to the Information and Privacy Assistant, and correspond and liaise with members of the Law Society, members of the public, and staff at other public bodies to process requests.
- Complex Requests: Consult with appropriate Law Society staff members, the Information and Privacy Officer, the Manager, Privacy, Records and Information Management, and the Chief Operating Officer for more complex records requests/protection of privacy issues.
- Best Practices: Work with departments to advocate for best practices in managing files and materials in compliance with FIPPA.
- Advice and Assistance: Provide advice and assistance to staff members, and respond to informal requests for information that relate to the Information and Privacy group.
- Backup Support: Provide backup for the duties of the Information and Privacy Officer as necessary.
- A university degree in a related field, or completion of a recognized paralegal program, and three to five years of related work experience, preferably in a government, regulatory, or legal setting.
- Experience and working knowledge of BC's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, relevant orders by the Office of the Information & Privacy Commissioner (OIPC), cases, trends, and issues.
- Completion of an Information Access and/or Protection of Privacy Certificate Program is an asset (i.e. CIPP/C, CIPT, or CIPM).
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to exercise tact and discretion with staff at all levels within the organization.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to manage requests, identify priorities, and remain organized in order to ensure that legislated deadlines are met.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electronic information systems, applications, and information management processes.
