Job Opportunity:

The City of Lethbridge is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our Public Safety Communications Centre as an Emergency Communications Specialist.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a results-oriented team member who can demonstrate professionalism and provide exemplary public service. As an Emergency Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for processing and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls, providing assistance and instruction to callers, and performing a variety of general support duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls using established procedures and protocols.
  • Provide assistance and instruction to callers using established procedures and protocols.
  • Use a Computer Aided Dispatch System and other computer programs to manage calls and respond to emergencies.
  • Monitor and respond to incoming and outgoing radio transmissions.
  • Perform general support duties related to the 24-hour operations of a Public Safety Communications Centre.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma.
  • Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
  • Working knowledge of Hexagon CAD systems and IAED Protocol Software.
  • Preference may be given to applicants who are certified with the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch in any discipline.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask while handling emergency events.
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR qualifications or a higher equivalent.

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants must consent to and pass a police security clearance.
  • Applicants must be at least 1 year clear of any detected or undetected criminal activity.
  • Applicants will be required to complete a basic industry-related aptitude, hearing, and typing tests, as well as a psychological assessment and interview.

Working Conditions:

Casual positions will be scheduled to provide coverage for breaks, leaves, absences due to illness, vacations, etc. Hours will vary depending on operational requirements and will require the ability and availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and peak vacation periods.
