Position Summary

The Independent Living with Supports Program (ILS) is a unique initiative designed to support youth in care who are transitioning to adulthood. This program provides a safe and nurturing environment, where youth can develop essential life skills and achieve their goals.

Job Responsibilities
  • Build positive relationships with participants, fostering a sense of belonging and independence.
  • Empower participants to develop independent living skills, such as budgeting, accessing community resources, and maintaining housing.
  • Provide creative and hands-on learning experiences that reflect individual care plans.
  • Support participants in their cultural programming, community involvement, and family relationships.
  • Assist participants in searching for and applying for apartments, understanding tenancy rights and responsibilities, and maintaining living areas.
  • Develop relationships with landlords and mediate issues between participants and landlords.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to ensure consistency in supporting participants' goals.
  • Organize time effectively to complete tasks and administration duties in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, including incident reports and contact notes.
Qualifications
  • Four years of experience working with at-risk youth.
  • Experience with one-on-one mentorship and a strong understanding of independent living realities.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Child and Youth Care or a related field.
  • Ability to navigate crisis situations and support others through stressful times.
  • Knowledge of strength-based philosophy and Aboriginal culture and language (an asset).
  • Knowledge of community resources and emergency first aid and CPR Level C certification.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and a clear Child Abuse Registry check.
