Program Overview

Our Independent Living with Supports Program (ILS) helps youth in care transition to adulthood by providing individualized support and resources.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Tenancy Support Mentor to join our team. As a key member of our ILS program, you will work closely with case managers to provide daily support and mentorship to youth on their caseload.

Main Responsibilities:
  • BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS: Establish positive relationships with participants, focusing on identifying personal strengths and promoting a sense of belonging, independence, generosity, and mastery.
  • INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS: Empower participants to develop skills such as budgeting, accessing community resources, maintaining housing, participating in education or employment, and cooking and cleaning.
  • CULTURAL PROGRAMMING: Collaborate with youth on applicable cultural programming, community activities, and family involvement to promote growth and development.
  • HOUSING SUPPORT: Assist participants in searching for, viewing, and applying for apartments, understanding tenancy rights and responsibilities, and maintaining living areas according to reasonable expectations.
  • LANDLORD RELATIONSHIPS: Develop relationships with landlords, mediate issues between participants and landlords, and follow up after complaints and evictions.
  • TIMELY TASK COMPLETION: Organize time effectively to complete tasks and administration duties in a timely and professional manner.
  • DOCUMENTATION: Maintain clear, concise, and accurate documentation, including incident reports and contact notes.
Requirements:
  • Four (4) years of experience working with at-risk youth, preferably with one-on-one mentorship.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Child and Youth Care or a related field; combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Ability to navigate crisis situations and support others through stressful times.
  • Knowledge of strength-based philosophy and aboriginal culture and language (an asset).
  • Satisfactory criminal record check, child abuse registry check, and adult abuse registry check.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driver's abstract.
Compensation:

$55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits.
