Therapeutic Recreation Specialist

As an integral part of the multidisciplinary team within the Complex Continuing Care Unit, the Recreational Therapist will deliver therapeutic recreation services tailored to the needs of patients requiring intricate medical attention, functional enhancement, or palliative care. The primary objective is to facilitate the patients' reintegration into the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement patient-centered goals and discharge strategies in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Conduct individual assessments to identify leisure interests and attitudes, crafting programs aimed at enhancing mental, physical, and socio-emotional well-being through both individual and group activities.
- Engage in continuous professional development to maintain and enhance clinical competencies.
- Base treatment and program plans on established best practice guidelines.
Qualifications
- Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies with a focus on Therapeutic Recreation or an equivalent qualification.
- Preferred experience of 1-3 years in a relevant field.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and proven ability to manage time effectively.
- Ability to work independently while demonstrating sound problem-solving capabilities and safe work practices.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
- Flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of the department and services.
- Experience in rehabilitation and/or geriatric assessment and treatment is advantageous.
- Consistent employment and attendance record.
Additional Information
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday with various shifts, subject to operational requirements.
Compensation: Competitive hourly wage.
