Overview of Responsibilities:
This role is essential for delivering proficient, adaptable, and prompt operational and analytical assistance for both short-term and long-term Onsite Petroleum Laboratory and Client initiatives, across various locations.
Key responsibilities encompass:
- Collaborating closely with Lab Managers and clients to ensure uninterrupted operations while offering support for onsite initiatives, including coverage for absences and staffing gaps.
- Delivering field sampling, analytical assessments, and physical properties testing with confidence, while upholding expertise in all standard analyses within the laboratory network.
- Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior personnel, including training sessions.
- Identifying opportunities for enhancements in operational, analytical, safety, and quality practices.
- Conducting routine and non-routine maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments.
- Engaging in instrument installation, method development, and validation tasks.
- Reviewing Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) summary reports to prioritize daily tasks for oneself and junior staff.
- Recognizing improvement opportunities, including production inefficiencies and potential business prospects for Bureau Veritas, and communicating these insights to the direct manager.
- Adhering to site-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Identifying and reporting non-conformances to supervisors/managers and contributing to corrective action plans.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science or technical diploma (Chemical Technology) with a strong emphasis on chemistry/laboratory science or equivalent.
- 5-10 years of extensive experience in a laboratory setting; prior leadership experience is essential.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and quality/document control systems is highly desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with frequent interactions with various laboratory, client, and third-party stakeholders.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in teams while also being capable of independent work with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility to adapt and maintain a positive attitude in dynamic environments, often collaborating with diverse personalities.
- Extensive hands-on experience and expertise in the following areas: Oil and Gas physical properties, Petroleum Product testing, Water analysis (Industrial and/or wastewater), Field sampling and sample preparation (water, gases, petroleum, geochemical), Gas Chromatography (GC-FID, GC-TCD, GC-SCD), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP-OES).

Working Conditions:
- Typical laboratory working conditions, which may involve extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking, as well as outdoor work in varying weather.
- A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License with fewer than 5 demerits is required.
- Extended driving periods (4-6 hours) may be necessary to access remote locations; the ability to drive in all weather conditions is essential.
