Job Summary

The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will play a vital role in implementing treatment programs and documenting patient progress in the Health Record, adhering to established Hospital Guidelines and under the supervision of the Speech-Language Pathologist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions under the direction of the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
  • Monitor and progress patient's therapy program as needed within the range directed by the SLP
  • Construct alternative and augmentative communication systems boards and instruct patients in their use
  • Complete workload measurement and Minimum Data Set (MDS) reporting as per Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care guidelines and RHC policy
  • Review patient health records for accurate information and maintain documentation
  • Perform care coordination in audiology regarding consults and/or referrals
  • Perform routine maintenance on therapy materials and equipment
  • Assist in planning and carrying out Hospital educational programs related to Speech-Language Pathology
  • Prepare therapy materials for individual and group therapy sessions
Requirements
  • Graduate of a Communicative Disorders Assistant/Communication Health Assistant/Speech Language Pathology Assistant program from a recognized college required
  • Membership in the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC) preferred
  • Experience in a Rehabilitation/Complex Continuing Care Hospital and/or Acute Care Hospital preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise with geriatric, neurological, and MSK conditions
  • Active involvement in own continuing education
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
  • Excellent communication skills in both oral and written in English
  • Effective verbal and written communication to successfully work with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required
