Speech-Language Pathology Assistant

The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will play a vital role in implementing treatment programs and documenting patient progress in the Health Record, adhering to established Hospital Guidelines and under the supervision of the Speech-Language Pathologist.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct individual and group therapy sessions under the direction of the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
- Monitor and progress patient's therapy program as needed within the range directed by the SLP
- Construct alternative and augmentative communication systems boards and instruct patients in their use
- Complete workload measurement and Minimum Data Set (MDS) reporting as per Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care guidelines and RHC policy
- Review patient health records for accurate information and maintain documentation
- Perform care coordination in audiology regarding consults and/or referrals
- Perform routine maintenance on therapy materials and equipment
- Assist in planning and carrying out Hospital educational programs related to Speech-Language Pathology
- Prepare therapy materials for individual and group therapy sessions
- Graduate of a Communicative Disorders Assistant/Communication Health Assistant/Speech Language Pathology Assistant program from a recognized college required
- Membership in the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC) preferred
- Experience in a Rehabilitation/Complex Continuing Care Hospital and/or Acute Care Hospital preferred
- Demonstrated expertise with geriatric, neurological, and MSK conditions
- Active involvement in own continuing education
- Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
- Excellent communication skills in both oral and written in English
- Effective verbal and written communication to successfully work with all levels of the organization
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record required
