Job Summary

The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant will work under the supervision of a Speech-Language Pathologist to implement treatment programs and document patient progress. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions under the direction of the Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Monitor and progress patient therapy programs as needed.
  • Construct alternative and augmentative communication systems and instruct patients in their use.
  • Complete workload measurement and Minimum Data Set (MDS) reporting as per Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care guidelines and RHC policy.
  • Review patient health records for accurate information and maintain documentation.
  • Perform care coordination in audiology regarding consults and/or referrals.
  • Perform routine maintenance on therapy materials and equipment.
  • Assist in planning and carrying out Hospital educational programs related to Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Prepare therapy materials for individual and group therapy sessions.
Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Communicative Disorders Assistant/Communication Health Assistant/Speech Language Pathology Assistant program from a recognized college required.
  • Membership in the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC) preferred.
  • Experience in a Rehabilitation/Complex Continuing Care Hospital and/or Acute Care Hospital preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise with geriatric, neurological, and MSK conditions.
  • Active involvement in own continuing education.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification.
  • Excellent communication skills in both oral and written in English.
  • Effective verbal and written communication to successfully work with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required.
