Position Overview

As a Pharmacy Support Specialist, you will play a crucial role in assisting pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in delivering top-notch pharmaceutical services to our patients. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals eager to gain experience in the healthcare sector while ensuring the smooth operation of the pharmacy. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks, including customer interaction, medication preparation, inventory oversight, and administrative support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Interaction: Welcome customers, handle phone inquiries, and provide information regarding medications and pharmacy services in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Prescription Management: Aid in the processing of prescription orders, which includes data entry, labeling, and packaging under the guidance of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician.
  • Medication Preparation: Accurately count, measure, and package prescription medications, adhering to established protocols and safety procedures.
  • Inventory Oversight: Receive and organize incoming shipments of medications and supplies. Monitor stock levels, conduct rotations, and assist with inventory audits as necessary.
  • Sanitation and Organization: Ensure the pharmacy area remains clean and organized, including medication shelves and workstations. Dispose of expired medications and hazardous materials in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Administrative Assistance: Carry out clerical duties such as filing, faxing, and scanning documents. Help with processing insurance claims and coordinating prescription transfers as needed.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Follow all relevant laws, regulations, and pharmacy policies, including privacy and confidentiality standards.
  • Additional Tasks: Support special projects, promotions, and events as directed by pharmacy management.

Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a pharmacy assistant program or relevant healthcare certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a retail or healthcare environment is beneficial but not essential. On-the-job training will be provided.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities. Capable of interacting professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail and accuracy in tasks such as medication counting and labeling.
  • Organizational Skills: Effective organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced setting.
  • Computer Skills: Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and pharmacy software systems (training will be provided).
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with pharmacy staff and contribute positively to a team environment.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on pharmacy operational needs.

Working Conditions
  • This is a full-time role, with standard work hours typically ranging from 32-40 hours per week.
  • The position may require prolonged periods of standing and occasional lifting of moderate-weight boxes or containers.
  • Work shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on pharmacy operational hours.
