Telesat, a premier global satellite operator, is seeking a highly skilled LEO Operations Research Specialist to enhance our innovative Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network. With over 50 years of experience in delivering secure satellite communications, Telesat is committed to providing exceptional service to a diverse range of clients, including government and corporate sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize optimization expertise to accurately define and implement complex optimization challenges within the Telesat Lightspeed System Model, enhancing operational efficiency.
  • Lead the development of optimization methodologies to improve analysis and operational performance.
  • Innovate new formulations to accommodate emerging features, constraints, and objectives within the System Model.
  • Employ mathematical optimization techniques, including Linear Programming and Mixed Integer Programming, to create effective solvers for system engineering applications.
  • Conduct trade-off analyses of algorithms and formulations to ensure optimal performance.
  • Participate in the restructuring of the System Model to enhance performance and maintainability, adhering to operations research best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of the System Model into business applications.
  • Contribute to the design and development of critical system components, including resource allocation, communication mechanisms, and compliance management.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance in operations research methodologies.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends in operations research and contribute innovative solutions to the Lightspeed constellation system.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and collaborate with external partners to ensure project success.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficient in commercial solvers such as Cplex, Gurobi, or Fico Xpress, as well as non-commercial solvers like Coin-OR or SCIP.
  • Strong foundation in optimization techniques for Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) problems.
  • Experience in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, Java, C, or C++.
  • Background in applying Operations Research to solve complex business challenges.
  • Experience with space systems is advantageous.
