Under the supervision of the Utilidor Foreman, the Utility Systems Technician serves as an entry-level role tasked with supporting the practical operation, repair, and upkeep of all elements comprising the Utilidor and sewage collection systems to guarantee effective functionality. The Technician will aid in routine operations, maintenance, preventative measures, and repairs as necessary to minimize disruptions in water and sewer services.

The individual must be prepared to work in challenging outdoor weather conditions, in areas with unpleasant odors due to waste, and in confined spaces. Participation in training and safety-related courses relevant to the position is essential.

Minimum Qualifications:


• Completion of grade 10 education


• 2 to 3 years of prior plumbing experience


• Valid class 5 Nunavut Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications:


• Journeyman plumbing or oil burning certification is advantageous


• Additional training and certifications in a related field are beneficial


• Relevant experience within a municipal context is a plus


• Experience in piped water/sewage systems is an asset


• Proficiency in both Inuktitut and English is favorable


• Flexibility for last-minute scheduling is required


• Availability for some overtime is necessary

Additional assets include the ability to communicate in writing and verbally in Inuktitut and/or French.

Equivalencies that encompass a combination of education, knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Note: A Criminal Record check and a clean driver's abstract are prerequisites for this position.
