Position Overview:We are seeking a Junior Structural Engineer to become a part of our Global Consulting team. This role will be based in our Burlington office.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop cost-effective structural engineering designs from initial concepts through to detailed designs, tenders, and construction, adhering to Canadian Codes and Standards.
- Conduct analysis and design of steel structures and concrete foundations for industrial and infrastructure projects.
- Perform site visits and inspect existing structures, evaluating them for modifications and additions while proposing reinforcement solutions.
- Prepare material take-offs for steel and concrete.
- Execute tasks with minimal supervision, ensuring that objectives related to cost, quality, and timelines are achieved.
- Oversee the work of designers within the project team.
- Collaborate directly with drafting staff to produce comprehensive drawing packages.
- Engage with client representatives and general contractors directly.
- Manage small projects primarily focused on structural scope.
To be successful in this role, you should possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized university (a Master's degree is considered an asset).
- A minimum of 6 to 10 years of experience in designing industrial and/or institutional buildings.
- Strong expertise in structural design and certification for various building types and heights, including lateral load analysis.
- Proficiency in designing steel structures, reinforced concrete structures, and various heavy concrete foundations for buildings and equipment. Experience in masonry and wood-framed structural design is a plus.
- Familiarity with US and International Codes and Standards is advantageous.
- Experience with structural engineering design software, particularly STAAD, along with knowledge of AutoCAD, NavisWorks, and Smart Plant.
- Proven experience in direct interactions with clients and contractors.
- Site inspection and reporting experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for preparing reports, specifications, presentations, and estimates.
