Position Overview

The Toronto Star is actively seeking a Journalist for the Editorial Department. The role involves versatile assignments across various newsroom departments.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to report and write with authority on urgent news events while also providing insightful analysis. We are looking for a journalist with a proven track record in news reporting and a strong command of impactful storytelling.

The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with newsroom colleagues, pushing beyond conventional narratives to deliver stories that are accurate, comprehensive, engaging, and pertinent. They should be adept in digital platforms and eager to explore innovative storytelling methods, utilizing customer feedback to enhance content engagement and drive subscriptions. The primary focus will be on daily news reporting, complemented by feature writing.

Required Qualifications
  • Professional experience in journalism, preferably with a focus on federal politics
  • Strong news judgment, storytelling capabilities, and multimedia proficiency
  • Exceptional writing skills and the ability to craft engaging narratives
  • Self-motivated with the flexibility to generate compelling story ideas
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently
  • High standards for quality; detail-oriented and capable of meeting tight deadlines
  • Proficient interviewing and newsgathering skills to extract vital information
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with sources and conduct interviews in challenging situations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and diplomacy
  • Familiarity with information access procedures and databases
  • Proficient in CP style guidelines
