About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Barr Engineering Co. as a Mechanical Engineer - Project Specialist. In this role, you will work with multidisciplinary project teams to provide mechanical engineering and related technical expertise to our mining and heavy industrial clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering and technical expertise to project teams
  • Design and develop industrial systems, including fluid transfer, bulk material handling, and plant layout
  • Prepare design and construction drawings and specifications
  • Complete engineering calculations and analyses
  • Select equipment and components
  • Write technical reports and prepare sketches for system arrangement
  • Develop details of designs and prepare cost estimates and bid packages

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university
  • 5+ years of related work experience
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) certification or ability to obtain within one year
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Strong writing ability
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a project team environment
  • Demonstrated project organization and management skills
  • Flexible working style to meet deadlines and client needs
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada or the United States without sponsorship
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience working on projects related to job responsibilities at a consulting engineering or industrial workplace
  • Experience with Revit and/or Solidworks software
  • Experience directing the work of CAD designers
  • Experience with AFT Fathom and/or Caesar II software
  • Client service aptitude and experience
  • Experience working directly with clients
  • Proven experience involving industrial equipment, pumping/piping systems, gas handling systems, HVAC, dust collection, plumbing, slurry/paste handling, and/or other relevant mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated project or task management skills

What We Offer

Barr Engineering Co. offers a hybrid work arrangement for this position, allowing you to split your time between our office and a home office. This position can be based out of our Calgary, Alberta, or Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, offices.

Important Note

Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients.
