Position Overview
The Service Engineering Specialist plays a crucial role in identifying root causes and implementing corrective measures for service-related product issues. This position involves comprehensive troubleshooting, program updates, vendor collaboration, field testing, and the creation of detailed service documentation. The Specialist will report directly to the Controls Supervisor within the Service Engineering department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee commissioning activities, both on-site and remotely, while addressing hardware, software, and firmware challenges.
- Develop and assess service bulletins and instructions in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts and suppliers.
- Manage the transition of field service reports to the engineering team for program testing.
- Investigate and resolve product issues by working closely with vendors and engineering teams to implement effective solutions.
- Assist in the creation of diagnostic tools to enhance service efficiency in the field.
- Provide actionable guidance to field staff and customers to resolve technical issues promptly.
- Support initiatives aimed at preventing the recurrence of known field issues.
- Evaluate and recommend product improvements in collaboration with design teams.
- Effectively communicate technical issues and resolutions to internal teams and utility customers.
- Update the Technical Publications Department with relevant information for manuals and suggest enhancements.
- Participate in controlled testing of components to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and product reliability.
- Engage in special assignments as needed.
Qualifications:
- Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training, Professional Engineer, or Certified Engineering Technologist in Electrical.
- 1-2 years of experience in troubleshooting electrical/electronic systems, software/firmware, or process failures is preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience in PLC programming and familiarity with real-time diagnostic tools is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and prioritize accordingly.
- Meticulous attention to detail and proficiency in producing clear, concise documentation.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Travel Requirements:
Willingness to travel up to 10% across North America may be necessary.
