Job Title: Service Engineering Specialist

New Flyer is a leading manufacturer of heavy-duty transit buses, offering advanced products under the Xcelsior and Xcelsior CHARGE brands. Our company also provides infrastructure development through NFI Infrastructure Solutions, dedicated to providing safe, sustainable, and reliable charging and mobility solutions.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Service Engineering Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our service engineering team, you will be responsible for determining root cause and corrective action for issues affecting our products in service. This will involve troubleshooting, revising and uploading programs, collaborating with vendors, testing in the field, and writing comprehensive Instructions to Service documents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the execution of commissioning activities, both onsite and/or remote, to ensure seamless product integration.
  • Create and evaluate service bulletins and instructions by working cross-functionally with Subject Matter Experts and suppliers.
  • Initiate the transition of road incidents in field service action reports and task them to the FSAR engineering team for resolution.
  • Investigate and resolve product issues of varying complexity by collaborating with vendors and engineering teams to implement recommended solutions.
  • Develop and provide diagnostic tools in the field to enhance serviceability and efficiency.
  • Provide guidance and propose actionable steps to resolve issues raised by field staff or customers, ensuring adherence to timelines.
  • Support cross-functional efforts to prevent the reoccurrence of known issues in the field.
  • Assess and quantify the benefits of product improvement opportunities and work with designers to implement improvements for existing and future products.
  • Communicate the root cause and resolution of technical issues effectively to internal and utility customers as required.
  • Supply Technical Publications Department with updated information for manuals and suggestions for improving manual content.
  • Assist with controlled testing of components and installations to meet contractual obligations and ensure product reliability.
Requirements
  • Registered (or eligible to be registered) as an Engineer in Training, Professional Engineer, or Certified Engineering Technologist – Electrical.
  • 1-2 years' experience with troubleshooting electrical/electronic, software/firmware, or process failure modes preferred.
  • 1-2 years' experience in PLC programming and familiarity with real-time service and diagnostic tools preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • An ability to prioritize and execute many tasks in parallel.
  • An excellent attention to detail and ability to produce clear and concise written documents.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
