Position Overview

The Vice President of Analytics will play a pivotal role in shaping the vision for strategic and quantitative analysis within the organization. This position is integral to a dynamic team engaged in innovative research aimed at delivering profound insights and actionable metrics in the intricate landscape of market and dealer firm regulation.

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Market Regulation, this strategic role involves leading the national analytics team. The selected candidate will be responsible for proactively analyzing and interpreting capital market activities, providing quantitative evidence of regulatory impacts, and supporting the organization’s strategic objectives.

Stonewood Group Inc. aims to leverage its extensive market and dealer firm data to analyze trends, identify emerging risks, and inform its regulatory strategies while delivering in-depth industry insights through published research initiatives. This role presents an opportunity to contribute to high-impact research that will influence the direction of the organization and stimulate national and international discussions, while also focusing on enhancing data and analytical capabilities to fulfill its regulatory mandate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and planning of strategic and quantitative analyses to fulfill the organization's mission and objectives;
  • Collaborate with industry experts to utilize the organization’s unique data repositories for groundbreaking research and to enhance its reputation;
  • Implement strategies to cultivate and guide a team of specialists in capital markets, quantitative analysis, and data science;
  • Direct the analytics mandate of the organization, including:
    • Analysis of market and dealer firm trends;
    • Evaluating the impact and effectiveness of regulatory changes within the Canadian market;
    • Supporting the organization’s strategic initiatives;
  • Provide expert counsel and thought leadership as a representative of the organization;
  • Engage in the overall management and strategic direction of the organization;
  • Maintain the annual marketing plan and budget;
  • Combine innovative approaches with strong computational and statistical skills, demonstrating leadership and mentoring capabilities;
  • Possess advanced knowledge of programming and quantitative concepts, analytics platforms, and programming languages;
  • Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence is highly desirable;
  • Develop and enforce standards for data collection and analysis;
  • Demonstrate strong management experience, including a history of leading national teams;
  • Build relationships and collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Exhibit excellent oral, written, and presentation skills for both business and technical audiences;
  • Experience in research publication and public presentations is an asset;
  • Provide ongoing analysis of trends and changes in capital markets and the financial industry that may affect Canadian marketplaces;
  • Experience with statistical methods and machine learning is highly desirable;
  • Familiarity with equity and debt trading and an understanding of trading strategies is a definite asset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields;
  • A minimum of 3 years of senior management experience with a proven track record of managing a national team;
  • Strong understanding of the capital markets and securities industry, including trading systems and market activities.
